Founded in 1904, Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) is the leader in youth mentoring in the United States. In Monterey County, BBBS has been active since 1989.
Our mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of children through relationship with caring volunteers who serve as role models, mentors and friends.
Our vision is to take our life-changing mission to every child who needs and wants a Big Brother or Big Sister.
A child's self-esteem increases when an adult friend genuinely cares. His or her future is broadened by a role model who can be a guide to life's opportunities, and around life's obstacles. And for children, the obstacles are very real.
The benefits to the volunteer are: a chance to reconnect with youth, to make a good life even better, and to have a sense of "giving something back". The feelings of growing and learning are shared by the child and the volunteer.
